Strandtown at the Kingspan

21st May 2019

On Tuesday 7th May one P7 team travelled to the Kingspan Stadium to take part in Ulster Rugby’s Primary School Blitz where we played Fairview PS, Omagh Primary and Pontyzpass. We started the tournament in typical Strandtown fashion (a little slowly!) and had it not been for excellent play from our impact subs the first result could have gone either way. Thankfully though we slowly managed to ease our way into things and came out on top 3 tries to 2.

The next match was against Pontyzpass Primary School who had their very own Simon Best watching on. The boys took feedback extremely well before the game and came out all guns blazing. They produced one of the best displays of the year to run out convincing winners without even conceeding a try. Special mention in this game has to go to Raanan Potter who came out late as a sub and really added impetus to the game, hitting rucks low and hard and playing some lovely, unselfish rugby. He was ably assisted in this by the likes of Caleb Lockhart, Mathew McGonigle and Isaac Wray.

Last up was a game against Omagh PS who struggled to match the speed and intensity that our boys were able to bring and we eventually ran out convincing winners.

Next up at the end of the month is our final tournament of what has been an extremely successful year for everyone involved in Strandtown Rugby. The Campbell tournament is a fantastic opportunity for the boys to show their colous proudly, display what they have learned throughout the year and, most importantly, have fun playing for their school!

Thank you again to all the parents who turned up to support and help our boys at Ravenhill on Tuesday! The lads were a credit to themselves and the school, as they have continued to be all year!
