Message from Mrs Hutchinson: Welcoming Pupils Back to School

2nd Sep 2020

Dear Parents,

It has been wonderful to welcome our pupils back to Strandtown.  They have brought smiles and learning back to this building.  The pupils so far have made a wonderful start to the term and shown great adaptability to their new routines.

Unfortunately, the weather has been poor the last couple of mornings and I would like you to be aware that in the case of inclement weather the class will be able to enter the building under staff supervision 5 minutes earlier.

It has been also noted that children have arrived 30 minutes before their class start time.  I appreciate the challenges of staggered start times; however, this has become a new norm across the schools of NI.  I must strongly ask that children do not arrive before their scheduled start time.  There is no supervision on the school site and no possibility to admit them into the building earlier.  As the weather gets colder, wetter and the mornings darker, I would urge all parents to ensure their children are arriving for their scheduled start time.  I would appeal for your full cooperation here in the interest of the children’s wellbeing.

We want our welcome at Strandtown to remain as warm and friendly as ever, however there are steps we need to take to protect our whole school community at present.  Importantly, parents are not to enter the school building unless by scheduled appointment.  The children will be led to their room by their teacher each morning and I would kindly ask that parents do not come into the school buildings in the morning.

Next week, pupils who are entitled to Free School Meals can now book a ‘hot meal’ ‘to be eaten in the classroom’ through the SchoolMoney app.  We kindly ask that only those entitled to Free School Meals use this service and all other pupils bring a packed lunch.  A copy of the school menu is available under “News” on our website.

Thank you for your ongoing support and co-operation.

Kind Regards,

Victoria Hutchinson
