Flight - Bird Making Workshop & Visit from Bombardier

30th Jan 2020

Rom 34 have had a busy and exciting two days with bird sculpting and learning about the planes that are partly built here in Belfast! On Wednesday we welcomed Mrs Patton back to sculpt birds from socks, decorated with buttons and feathers. We look forward to completing these next week and displaying them in our room.

Today we welcomed Mr Bloomer in to visit, one of our parents, who is a Stress Engineer with Bombardier. We learned about early flight, the history of Shorts, some of the mechanics of flight and what Bombardier are making here in Belfast nowadays. The children then had the opportunity to make a choice of two different style paper planes, with much folding involved. On testing, we found Tessa's to be the most successful, flying from the board all the way to the door. Tamsin won the prize for highest altitude, with her plane getting stuck in the overhead light!

Many thanks to both Mrs Patton and Mr Bloomer for joining us and Mrs Harper for assisting with the bird making workshop.
