Eco Club

"make a change and let it grow"

Many thanks to everyone who bought vouchers from Cyprus Avenue – we have sold them all and are now planning which greenhouse to buy.

Shout out to Richard at Cyprus Avenue too, for his generosity in donating these vouchers!

This week we planted the first 60 of 1, 710 trees which we hope will become Strandtown Wood. These saplings are planted alongside the hedge which borders the gardens on Dundela Avenue. As we work towards attaining a green flag for Strandtown, we are enjoying our shared time with St Joseph’s School. Along with our tree planting, we hope to include a wildflower meadow on this side of the school grounds. Please look at and admire these tiny saplings.

A few other notes:

We’d like to thank Ross Harris of Northern Ireland Physiotherapy and Sports’ Injury Clinic for his contribution of £50 which has allowed us to buy compost for the raised beds in the main garden.

We’re looking for a few parental contributions as we work with the school eco warriors to introduce a seating area and complete the raised beds in the internal school gardens. If you feel you could contribute any items please bring them to the main door of school between 3-4.30 on Tuesday afternoons, when Eco club students will be able to help sort and move them to their new homes.

We’re looking for:

Wooden garden furniture to paint

  • Terracotta pots in good condition
  • Peat
  • Garden implements, particularly smaller sized
  • Watering cans
  • Grow bags and potato sacks
  • Bedding plants
  • Greenhouse staging
  • Potting bench
