School Council Present £750 to Disabilty Charities.

12th Feb 2018

On Monday morning, a special 'Disability Awareness' assembly was held in school. This assembly was hosted by the School Council where cheques for £250 were presented to Mencap, Disabilty Sport N.I. and  Guide Dogs for the Blind N.I.

Earlier this year, some of our Year 6 school councillors took part in a WE programme which encouraged them to think about others instead of themselves and to think of acting in a selfless way rather than a selfish way.

One of the areas in which the school council felt they could make a difference was in 'Disabilty Awareness.' Bea and Pippa carried out a rigorous research task to see which local charities help people with various disabilities. Mencap, Disabilty Sport N.I and Mencap were all selected and invited to today's assembly to receive their cheques. It was great to hear how each of the charities were planning to use the money that was being presented to them by our pupils. The visit of the guide dog was also a huge hit with the pupils.

Well done school councillors and to all those who took part in today's assembly.

No one ever became poor by giving!
